Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cemil Yamalı passed away

Professor Emeritus of our department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cemil Yamalı passed away on May 13th, 2018. Our condolences to his family and friends.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cemil Yamalı was born in December 15th, 1950 in Şumnu. He obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of METU in 1973 and 1976, respectively. He completed his Ph.D. in University of Michigan in 1983.

He worked in our department as a graduate research assistant during his M.S. study. After his Ph.D., he started working as an assistant professor in our department in 1985, and he became an associate professor in 1988. In addition, he worked in TÜBİTAK Ballistic Research Institute during 1989 – 1991 towards the development of computational thermodynamics approaches for defense industry applications.

He retired on December 2017, and he was teaching an undergraduate technical elective course during the 2018 Spring semester.

We will always remember him and his contributions to science, and his invaluable service to our university and department.
