Ali Karakus earned a B.S. (2005) and Ph.D. (2015) for mechanical engineering from Middle East Technical University. He spent a year in Computational and Applied Mathematics at Rice University in Houston,TX as a visiting graduate researcher in 2014. He worked as a postdoctoral research appointee in the Department of Mathematics at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA between 2016 and 2018. Before he joined METU, he was a researcher on the efficient exascale discretizations project in the Division of Mathematics and Computational Science at Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago, IL.

Ali Karakus’s research interests are in numerical methods for PDEs and scientific computing. More specifically, his recent work has focused on high order finite element and discontinuous Galerkin methods for fluid dynamics, stabilization and shock capturing, multiphase flows, and efficient high performance implementations on many-core and GPU architectures.
