The Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Nevada, Reno is looking for M.S and Ph.D. students pursuing graduate degrees from METU ME for Spring/Fall 2022. The info of two professors directly contacted with us are below and you can find more openings at https://www.unr.edu/me/people#filter=Academic%20Faculty. You can access the original PDF version of this announcement from here.

Dr. Hanna’s group:

Applicants are invited for multiple postdoctoral positions to work with J. Hanna in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. Those interested in Ph.D. and M.S. positions are also invited to make contact.

A variety of experiences and interests are welcome; we will consider proposed research in both theory and experiment in all areas under the very general heading of classical mechanics and applied geometry. Topics of interest include but are not limited to continuum mechanics (materials, solids, fluids, fluid-structure interaction, and structures), dynamics, nonlinear science, soft condensed matter, and materials processing. Specific topics of current activity include elasticity and mechanics of thin structures. Experimental experience in sheet metal working, web handling, or another manufacturing area will be viewed favorably.

Postdoctoral positions may last up to three years, and will include significant support for travel, as well as opportunities for collaborations— department faculty expertise includes manufacturing, materials, dynamics, robotics, and other areas. We are a young and growing group, department, and city, the latter in particular offering a very attractive quality of life.

Interested parties should send a CV to jhanna@unr.edu and indicate their research interests and anticipated timeframe. Review of applications will be ongoing, and timing is flexible.

Dr. Aureli’s group:

The Multiphysics Laboratory in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Nevada, Reno is always looking for Ph.D. students pursuing graduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering. Graduate Research/Teaching Assistant (RA/TA) positions may be immediately available for qualifying students with strong interest and background in: (1) smart materials and structures, (2) fluid-structure interactions, and (3) vibrations and dynamics.

Prospective Ph.D. students are expected to have strong research experience in Mechanical Engineering or closely related disciplines, a minimum GPA of 3.25/4.0 for their B.Sc. and M.Sc., quantitative GRE > 160, and outstanding English language oral and written communication skills.

Master's students and Direct Ph.D. students may be considered as well in special circumstances. Minimum GPA of 3.25/4.0 for B.Sc., quantitative GRE > 160, and outstanding English language oral and written communication skills (TOEFL/IELTS: 80/6.5) are required.

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit a detailed resume, a list of three professional references, and a research statement including a description of prior experience, by email to maureli@unr.edu. Applications will be accepted until available positions are filled.
